‘Passion – it all starts with passion. To do what’s right for the individual’

On a bright Spring day in Melksham we were thrilled to welcome so many like minded and driven individuals from our Industry. Coming together to discuss best practice and  driving positive change.

Collectively we are striving towards a cohesive and single minded approach for both LEA’s and Alternative Providers alike. It was inspirational listening to Jonathon Skinner, Head of Belgrave Independent School in Bristol, as he outlined how he and his staff have evolved the reporting of successful outcomes – through a cohesive narrative that follows the individual. He also went on to explain how they are validating this approach with Local Education Authorities (LEA’s) and the inspectorate who are becoming more responsive to fluid measurables and less rigid with academic success markers, which reflects more accurately the progress and personal successes of the individual. We will be working with Jonathon in the future as we drive positive change and best practice throughout the industry.

We heard from Dean Sherwin of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who offered such hopeful and motivational stories of students regaining their confidence, discovering skills for business, demonstrating initiative and self motivation. Students are working towards accreditations in more vocational areas and being then reintegrated into a more traditional and academic pathway.

Sarah Howes of New College was able to shed light on the parameters of transitioning into college. It provoked interesting discussion as we workshopped how and when these transitions need to begin and what  infrastructure needs to be in place to make them successful, be it practical or emotionally.

we have been collating the ideas raised and the challenges to be tackled and look forward to being the driving force behind positive change for the industry.
