Our Priorities, Expectations, FAQs & Parent Testimonies

Our Priorities

At Launch2Learning, we provide our students with teaching that suits their specific needs so that they can achieve their full potential. This means that all of our students receive one-to-one teaching from a subject-specific teacher in one of our small, calm, relaxed centres. We work hard to ensure that our students succeed academically, but also believe that investing in their emotional wellbeing and mental health is vitally important on the path to adulthood.

The children and young people who are referred to us have often had a negative experience of education in the past, so we aim to help them to see the joy of learning through our student-led approach: this often involves games, active learning and other, less traditional, ways of acquiring knowledge. Our goal is for all of our students to have a good experience of education with us and to give them confidence in their own abilities so that they can go forward and achieve their best in the future.

WHat to expect at l2l

Our Induction Process

To help your child/young person to settle in, we have a slow induction process. In our experience, this has really helped our students to feel more comfortable coming into the centre during their first few weeks. It is important to note that this timeline is flexible, depending on how your child/young person is getting on - we can move more slowly or more quickly if that’s what they need.

Week 1 of Placement

Session 1 - 20 minute visit with student and parent/guardian with a representative from school if available.

The remaining sessions in Week 1 will be 1-hour sessions. The parents/guardian can attend all or part of the first 1-hour session if necessary.

Week 2 of Placement

All sessions in Week 2 will be 2-hour sessions.

Week 3 of Placement

From Week 3, all sessions will be 3-hour sessions.

Communication

One of the most important factors in our students’ success is our bespoke, individual and flexible approach. This means that your input, as a parent/carer, is hugely helpful to us. You know your child better than we do and we will always aim to have a positive relationship with you to help us to do what’s best for your child. If you ever have any concerns, updates or suggestions about your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact one of our centre managers. Equally, we will let you know if we have anything that we feel is important for you to be aware of.

expectations in our centres

Another vitally important part of Launch2Learning is our culture of kindness, respect and tolerance. We always aim to look after our staff and students, so we ask that our students treat us with the same respect.

 FAQs

  • Yes. Most of our centres are in remote locations where there is little access to shops/cafes. As such, you will need to bring lunch or snacks with you if you think you will need them during your session. All of our centres have tea/coffee-making equipment so we can provide hot drinks. We kindly ask that you do not bring fizzy drinks into the centres.

  • We want you to feel comfortable at Launch2Learning and so you are welcome to wear what you would like. Many of our students attend their sessions wearing jeans or sweatpants. We like to suggest that it is something practical as we often like to go for walks and play games, but that is up to you.

  • Just ask! Our tutors are all very aware of the fact that our students need regular breaks. If you’re getting tired or fed up, tell your tutor and they will give you a chance to have a breather - either outside or in the centre.

  • At Launch2Learning, we know that not every day is a good day. If you are not feeling good (physically or mentally), please just let us know. This means that we can adjust what we’re doing to suit how you’re feeling. If you need more breaks, a quiet space or just someone to talk to, we can make sure that you have what you need.

  • This very much depends on the centre and the day. Most of our centres (except Maud Heath) have a maximum of 5 students in at a time. This means that these centres will have up to 11 people in them at a time (5 students, 5 teachers and a Centre Manager).

In Maud Heath, however, we can have up to 10 students in at a time. This means that there could be up to 21 people in the centre when you are there, spread across several rooms (10 students, 10 teachers and a Centre Manager).

  • If you are going to miss your session, someone will need to let us know. Contact details for each of the centres is on the ‘Contact Us’ page of this website.

What Parents Have to Say About Us

Parent of F, an L2L Student

“At the start, progress was very slow and even painful at times, but the support and encouragement offered to F by the team gave him the impetus to try and do things he had previously been completely alienated from, most notably maths and English. As he developed his skill, he developed more interest and this in turn generated greater self-confidence in his own ability. We are convinced that the environment at L2L was a key factor in helping him grow both academically and personally. We have seen F grow tremendously as a person during his time with you and to now see him settled back in to full-time, mainstream education is testament to the support, expertise and excellence offered by your team.”
